About 30 minutes from the attractions in Waco, Lake Whitney is actually a reservoir on the Brazos River. Lake Whitney is a 96 square kilometer lake that is located in Mile River. It was created in 1951 as a flood river to collect the overflow from the Brazos River.
Texas residents frequently visit Lake Whitney throughout the entire year due to its excellent recreational activities. Sailing, fishing, jet skiing, and water skiing are all popular here. And for land activities, there is golf, hiking, and camping as well. Another great reason to come here is the bird watching opportunities because visitors have been lucky enough to see everything from wild turkeys to egrets and bald eagles.

Lake Whitney has over 35 square miles of clear, blue water, and the area has almost 40 square miles of parks and public lands. Rugged white limestone cliffs border much of the lake, providing a dramatic backdrop to the crystal blue water. Picturesque coves, often with small waterfalls, offer pleasant surprises to boaters throughout the lake.
